When one thinks of a Goddess, images of a larger-than-life being, effused with light and grace, come to mind. Perhaps one may think of a Huntress, armed with a golden bow, clad in specialized armor, redefining and expanding our ideals of femininity. Or maybe a curvy, statuesque being swathed in flowing silken robes, looking down with a face full of compassion.
Imagine yourself approaching a Goddess in her dwelling. Imagine yourself about to prostrate yourself in order to worship her. What does one do to worship a Goddess?
This is where the differences in expressions of worship seem to diverge. In circles of spiritual polytheism and paganism, worship of a Goddess entails first and foremost, calling upon Her by name and making preparations of offerings in exchange for requests. Whether it's during a Pagan ritual or just for the sake of honoring a Goddess for the benefit of answering a prayer, one honors Her with the devotional energy of attention.
As a professional Fetish Provider, I receive requests from potential clients asking for “body worship”. The gist of this activity is essentially a male sub’s interest to put his mouth and tongue on any give part of my body because apparently “worship” is code for “indulging the oral fixation of a man”. Nothing makes me cringe more. It grosses me out to consider the selfishness and abhorrent entitlement of white privileged man who uses the term Goddess Worship to disguise his orally driven desire to objectify a “goddess” as if she were a large lollipop to be licked and suckled. This is a privilege to be earned and no man is entitled to this privilege.
To me, the idea of “Goddess Worship” extends way beyond the simple, sexualized hornball desire to slather a woman in breathy slop. It is not simply an activity that involves use of the mouth, but a state of deep reverence and awe at the divine feminine.
Worship is a concept of active and passive devotion. This means that actively, one does things in their daily life that are meant to be tributes to the Goddess that they are worshipping, not unlike how many worship Jesus Christ, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, and so on.
How can you show daily devotion to a Goddess? Goddesses are usually embody a femme quality, therefore always be respectful to femme humans. This isn’t just a face-to-face encounter type of respect, it’s for the entire population of femme-identified individuals and the strife they experience in society; professionally, socially, personally, economically, politically, etc. All femmes embody aspects of Goddesses, whether they acknowledge them or not, and deserve respect at the very least. Additionally, small daily rituals that express a loyal and mindful adherence to what the Goddess represents can support the allegiance. Say a small prayer/mantra/affirmation, create an altar with a photo of your Goddess and objects that represent what she means to you. Your real-life Goddess will notice how these practices affect your total devotion to Her.
